In this quest, the heroes become entomologists. They take on the role of “scientist” as they explore life in the undergrowth, the critical relationships between insects and humans, the harsh truths and beauty of life cycles, and the complex classification of life. As entomologists, they take on the responsibilities of raising insects and observing with intentionality and diligence, like a scientist. Exploring in this way ignites a curiosity and appreciation for the natural world and creates a safe and open place to discuss and face real fears.

The Exhibition is a public display of each group’s work throughout the quest. Teams organize a booth with all of their work, including the animal habitats they create, their observation journals, their taxonomy work, and their 3D models of Super Insects. Learners will have a chance to show parents their processes and what they learned. Parents will engage in a scavenger hunt so they can have fun, be curious, and see a variety of booths.

Elementary (ages 8-10)

Introducing the Roller Coaster Engineer Quest!

Roller coasters may be tear-inducing thrill machines, but they’re also fascinating examples of complex physics at work. Getting a string of cars through a knot of drops, flips, rolls, and launches requires teams of mechanical engineers analyzing concepts like forces, acceleration, and energy.

This session heroes will become roller coaster engineers and design a new roller coaster to present to Fun Spot USA here in Fayetteville, GA. Fun Spot sits on about 25 acres, but has recently bought an additional 100 acres to expand! They are requesting our studio to come up with new roller coaster designs that could excite people about coming to Fun Spot. As we work through this session, heroes will gain add to their existing physics knowledge and apply it to their coaster! Our exhibition will be a presentation of our final coaster designs to the Fun Spot USA team!

Middle School (Ages 10 - 14)

Introducing the Apprenticeship Quest!

Middle School learners are embarking on their Apprenticeship Quest. Through this quest, they will take inventory of their own passions, interests, and skill sets, as well as explore opportunities in the world that excite them or injustices in the world they feel compelled to address. Learners will be given tips and strategies for building their social capital, tutorials on how to write an apprenticeship pitch, and resources for how to show up on Day 1 of their apprenticeships ready to add value. The Apprenticeship Quest Exhibition will be a time for learners to connect with their Dream Teams — a trusted group that can encourage, inspire, and connect learners during the next stage of their Hero’s Journeys.
