The Georgia Tax Credit Program…

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

To foster economic diversity at The Forest School, scholarships are crucial.

Why is this important?

At The Forest School we believe…

  1. Learning is better in a diverse environment.

  2. Now more than ever schools can bring together families from across lines of difference and help them learn to love and support one another.

For those reasons, The Forest School is an intentionally diverse learning environment. This includes not just racial, age, gender, religious, and school background diversity; it also includes economic diversity. The Forest School includes families who can more than afford to pay tuition as well as families who cannot. Scholarships help cover necessary operating costs.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

It's rare that you have the opportunity to give without having to donate any of your money.  The Georgia Tax Credit makes this possible! It costs you nothing but is a significant benefit to families who otherwise wouldn’t consider The Forest School.

The Georgia Tax Credit program allows you to tell the state how you want some of your tax dollars spent. These are dollars that (1) you already have to pay in the form of Georgia state income taxes, but (2) can be redirected—at no cost—to an independent school’s scholarship program.

GIVING THAT DOESN’T COST YOU A PENNY

That's what many people assume, but the state of Georgia has given each of us the ability to "re-direct" a portion of the money we have to pay anyway, into a scholarship program.

The amounts are:

  • up to $1,000, if you file "single"

  • up to $2,500, if you are "Married, Filing Jointly"

  • up to 75% of your Georgia tax liability, if you have a C-Corporation

  • up to $10,000 with pass-through income, if you are members of LLC's, shareholders of S-Corps, parnters in partnerships and any non C-corps business

  • For every dollar you contribute, you get a dollar back on your taxes.

The only catch is that there is only $13 million set aside for this program state-wide (as of April 2020). Once that ceiling is reached, the opportunity for this year is over.

For that reason, this opportunity is both urgent and important.

NEXT STEPS

Four easy steps:

  1. Please visit the Apogee website at https://apogee123.org and follow the prompts to submit forms online.

  2. Look for emails indicating that you have been pre-approved for this credit.

  3. Mail your check—or pay online with credit card—within 60 days. Once you get your pre-approval letter back from the state, usually within a week or two, you'll have 60 days to mail your check (made payable to "Apogee Scholarship Fund" and “The Forest School” in the memo line) or pay online with credit card.

  4. After you have made your contribution, the state of Georgia will mail you a document validating your tax credit for whatever amount you contributed.

When you file your taxes for 2020 (whether the end of year or quarterly), you will receive an off-setting credit for that same amount on your 2020 State Tax Return.

PLEASE HELP OUR LEARNERS!

You can either send your money to the state or you can invest in the life of one of our heroes and change the course of their life forever!
