spark studio
The latest smash hit single has just been released by The Spark Studio! Thank you for the generous support of the Bashta family who provided the requisite space to make it happen, and all spark families for lending us the talent!
Exhibition is Thursday, May 25 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Trilith Central Park. We will be honoring each learner as they bridge to the next level. For those of you that are able to stay and celebrate a little longer we would like to have a small picnic until 10:00. Please bring chairs and food for your family. We will walk back to school at 10:00. We could use 2-3 parent volunteers to help walk us back.

"I realized the secret to success is finishing! And not just finishing, but finishing strong." - Eric Thomas
The countdown has begun! Heroes are racing toward the finish line, as they complete badge plans, prepare for Exhibition, and organize their Google drives, all in preparation for a great summer and start to the next school year.
In StoryArts, Heroes got to hear examples from 2 Upper Elementary Wax Museum Monologues. They analyzed what made their monologues effective and made edits to their monologue. They have also begun building out their display boards to help further tell the story of their change maker. The exhibition is approaching, and our Heroes are hard at work.
As we wrap up Civilization, Heroes are writing their stories of the world to summarize the critical historical moments they've learned about this year.
In Quest, we ran into a sticky situation. Our Heroes’ plants were sprouting quite well until Mother Nature intervened! With the heavy rains this week, a few of our gardens flooded, and we are researching ways to save them. What a real-world experience!
Finally, a huge shoutout to two of our Upper Elementary Heroes. Claire and Luiza. The girls found a young activist with whom they identified and reached out for an interview! Lui and Claire may have even solidified apprenticeships for next year, helping with a documentary! Check out this website to learn more, and watch the interview on our parent’s Facebook page. Make sure to congratulate them when you see them.
A few quick reminders: Please help your learner practice their monologue and create a look encompassing their change maker to wear at Exhibition. May 30th is our PE Olympics. Parents are encouraged to join the fun. In years past, we've had some heated Hero/parent competitions! Can't wait to see you all. Enjoy your weekend!

This week has been nothing short of extraordinary at our studio.
Our learners have demonstrated their dedication and passion for learning, showcasing their remarkable achievements and setting the stage for an upcoming event that promises to leave everyone in awe. From outstanding test scores to collaborative Exhibition planning and thought-provoking Socratic Launches, it's been a week filled with inspiration and growth.
The week began with learners completing their Iowa testing, and the results were nothing short of impressive. Their remarkable scores testify to their hard work and commitment to their education. As self-directed learners, they have embraced the opportunities presented to them and made the most of their time in the studio. It is truly gratifying to witness their growth and development firsthand.
In Quest, learners could present their Exhibition plans to Guides and peers. They received valuable feedback to help them refine their ideas and captivate their parents during next week's Exhibition. Set for May 24, 2023, at 4:45 pm, the event promises to be an unforgettable experience. Our Heroes have been working tirelessly to create personalized escape rooms that will challenge their parents' problem-solving skills. With clever clues and intricate designs, they are eager to showcase their creativity and provide an extraordinary adventure for all attendees.
Throughout the week, our studio has been buzzing with lively discussions during Socratic Launches. Learners have explored many captivating topics, including The Way of Life, Greek Mythology, Debates, and Sports. These launches have provided a platform for rigorous dialect and critical thinking, allowing learners to deepen their understanding of these subjects while honing their communication skills. Witnessing their passion and enthusiasm during these discussions is a testament to their growth as independent thinkers and engaged learners.
In Story Arts, our Middle School Heroes tried their hand at becoming ambidextrous. They learned new ways of holding a pen to help reduce fatigue. To break up the writing exercises, Middle School Heroes got to play some improved games to help them explore creative expression in a fun way!
As we reflect on this week's events, it is evident that our learners continue to thrive and excel in their educational journey. Their achievements, Exhibition preparations, and engaging discussions serve as a testament to their dedication, creativity, and love for learning. We are proud to be part of a community fostering remarkable growth and empowering learners to reach their full potential.
The upcoming Exhibition promises to celebrate their accomplishments and an opportunity for them to shine brightly. Let us all come together to support and applaud their efforts and be inspired by their journey of self-discovery and academic excellence.
"Keep up the fantastic work, learners. The sky's the limit!"

This week we are excited to share the events and experiences that filled our week with joy, growth, and a bittersweet farewell to our graduating seniors.
Our learners always amaze me during Quest with their dedication to personal growth and skill development. This week, we tested their self-defense training with a practical examination. Seeing them confidently execute the moves they'd been practicing throughout the session was inspiring. Congratulations to all our learners for mastering these essential skills.
With this session Exhibition fast approaching, our learners have been hard at work preparing their hilarious SNL-inspired skits. Their creative talents shone through as they rehearsed and refined their performances, and I cannot wait for everyone to see the fruits of their labor. The laughter that filled our school this week is a testament to the incredible sense of humor and camaraderie our learners possess.
This week our high school learners got feedback from their fellow learners about their scripts. We did a dry run of the show and are preparing for our expert guess visit. Stay tuned to find out who it is.
Today we had learners from Forest School Online join us to create heartfelt going-away boards for our beloved seniors, with each learner contributing messages, memories, and well-wishes for their future endeavors. We also practiced and set up for the big day, ensuring our seniors have a memorable and meaningful send-off.
As this school year comes to an end, we've already begun planning for the next one. Reflecting on the successes and lessons learned, we are eager to make next year even better. Our learners, too, are looking forward to summer adventures and the opportunities for growth, exploration, and fun that await them.
In conclusion, this week has been a beautiful blend of laughter, learning, and heartfelt goodbyes. Our self-directed high school continues to foster a supportive, engaging, and joyful learning environment, and I am grateful to be a part of this extraordinary community.
