We’re Hiring a Math Specialist!
What if you could help one of the nation’s leading learner-driven microschools reimagine what math can feel like? We’re looking for someone who gets excited about turning ‘I’m not a math person’ into ‘This is actually fun.’ You don’t need years of experience—just a collaborative spirit, a growth mindset, and a passion for making math a meaningful adventure instead of a worksheet grind. If you’re energized by puzzles, breakthroughs, and designing joyful learning experiences, let’s talk.
We’re looking for a full-time, in-person Math Specialist to help our young learners ages 6 to 18 really own their math journeys. This isn’t your typical math role. Think: less lecture, more Socratic sparks. Fewer drills, more real-world math quests. And yes, AI tutors are part of the toolkit!
Salary range: $40,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience, no medical starting in late July 2025.
What you’ll do:
Lead engaging, inquiry-based Math Labs across elementary, middle, and high school Studios
Cultivate learner mindsets and strategies that support self-directed math mastery—including relevance, resourcefulness, goal-setting, and persistenceTeach learners how to effectively use AI tutors and other digital tools as part of their math learning toolkit
Assess learners regularly and develop up-to-date progress reports
Tutor learners individually or in small groups based on need and learner goals
Tailor curriculum for The Forest School’s learner-driven model
Create session, weekly, and daily plans that support mastery and learner agency
Offer workspace flexibility that encourages learner ownership of time and task
Collaborate with leadership to draft and revise math scope and sequence documents during week one
Write draft parent emails about math learning experiences, in partnership with leadership
Work on campus five days per week, from 7:30 AM to 3:45 PM
Collaborate with Guides to determine which learner work is added to portfolios and transcripts
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:
AI Proficiency & Tool Navigation – Support learners in leveraging AI and digital platforms for exploration and practice
Coaching for Self Direction – Guide learners in setting goals, evaluating progress, and pivoting strategies
Workflow Integration – Help learners integrate math work into their personalized schedules and learning journeys
Authentic Assessment Techniques – Use real-time, performance-based assessment strategies aligned with learner goals
Reflection Facilitation – Encourage learners to reflect on their math growth, mindsets, and learning strategies
Adaptability & Innovation – Bring creativity and responsiveness to meet the unique needs of learners in a flexible, evolving model
We believe that true math mastery comes from both mindset (grit, resourcefulness, curiosity) and strategy (goal-setting, problem-solving, making sense of tools). You’ll coach both, using modern tools and ancient wisdom (a.k.a. asking great questions).
A teaching certificate is preferred but not required—just a deep love for math, young people, and learning that actually sticks. Sound like you? Or someone you know?
Let’s build something magical—and mathematical together.
Apply now and help us prove that math can be joyful, relevant, and deeply self-directed.
