Session 5: Year 5 - Week 23 In Review

It’s a wrap!

Check out this week’s updates below…

spark studio

Spark had an awesome week prepping and showcasing their projects for Exhibition. It was a “roaring” good time!

elementary studio

Session 5 is in the books! Our heroes had a roaring good time discussing the industrial revolution, completing their awesome TV scripts, and showcasing their knowledge all about Dinosaurs.

middle school studio

We made it to the end of of one of the longest sessions of the school year.

This session has definitely been a great learning experience for all heroes . This week we wrapped up all our Story Arts and Quest badges. During Storytelling, learners got to go to the Live Event with host Jeffery Stepakoff. Learners received feedback and the scripts were looked at as well.

For Quest, the studio learned so much about themselves during the Exhibition. They received nothing but positive feedback from peers, Guides, parents and experts. They made a huge 360 on their presentation skills, communication skills and their submission on Excellent Work. This Quest taught them the importance of cause and affect with the patience of gardening. They also said they learned how to present better in front of a crowd.

During the week we continued our Silent Core Skills and every learner continues to meet their goals on a daily basis. That’s such a big win for the Middle School studio because the learners didn’t have any motivation to want to meet their goals and now every morning when we do goal setting as a studio they are excited to tell the class what their goals are and actually meet them. By the end of the year we should have a nice amount of learners go from Nesting to Flying. This session was definitely a game changer and learners will come back and continue to be self directed learners.

We did it! We finished strong!

First, I would like to give a shout out to the High School studio for Story Arts this session. We had one major assignment which was writing a TV episode, minimum 5 pages, and they did an awesome job! Not only did everyone meet the requirements, but they were really good! Heroes put their heart, mind, and soul into these scripts and you can feel it.

How do I know you wonder? Well, it's because we held a studio-wide "table read"! It was a ton of fun, we all gathered in a large circle and read scripts aloud. Each group assigned actors to their characters, making the reads that much more fun and live! Once we finished ALL scripts, we voted on the best one, and that one is getting sent to THE Jeff Stepakoff; the Co-Executive Producer of television shows - Dawson’s Creek, Chasing Life, Wild Card - and has served as a Writer-Producer and/or Writer on eight primetime or first-run cable staffs, including the Emmy-winning The Wonder Years. He has written for two hit Disney films, is credited on over two hundred television episodes. Can’t wait to reveal who won!!

Secondly, our Quest was a hit! Considering this Quest had two parts; learning how to garden and pitching a community garden to two major clients, the learners stayed in flow and completed the mission well.

Lastly, we closed out the session through Civilization with a focus on gun control, and black history via the evolution of banking. Though this session was long and arduous, the heros pushed through each day, and their growth was nothing short of impressive. They have all truly earned a recoupering break, so everyone, enjoy!
