Welcome new Guides!
We're excited to welcome three new Guides to the Elementary Studio and a new Administrative Assistant. Read their bios below!
Anita Farmer
Junior guide, lower elementary studio
Born in Cincinnati but raised in the hills of eastern Kentucky from infancy, Anita has spent most of her life in a classroom.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Union College in her hometown of Barbourville, Kentucky, she began her teaching career at the same elementary school she attended as a child. During that time, she taught both kindergarten and first grade, as well as a first and second combination class. She also planned, organized, and/or coached many school programs and special events, musicals, extra-curricular activities and more during her 20+ years there. In addition, she also holds a Master of Arts in Elementary Education and is only two or three classes from earning her second Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Anita has always had a particular love for history, houses, and books, and it wasn’t until the the last few years that she finally figured out that what she truly loved about all of those things and more was the stories they could tell. This is one of the reasons she was drawn to The Forest School, and she is thankful to have the opportunity to be a member of The Forest School family.
She and her husband, Bill, and their son, Drew, who is a Middle School hero at TFS, currently reside in Senoia, GA, with their two cats, Ella and Ivan, and their dog, Emmie J. Their lives have taken a turn that they would not have thought about a few years ago, but like many others, 2020 set them upon a different path, and they are determined to follow it to see where it takes them.
Caprial Turner
apprentice guide, elementary studios
Caprial is originally from Clayton County, Georgia, but now resides in Peachtree City. In addition to learning the role of Guide, Caprial is currently enrolled in school and majoring in Healthcare Management. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She is so excited to be joining The Forest School team and can’t wait to see where the hero’s journey takes her.
Gage Williams
junior guide, upper elementary studio
Gage is originally from Pike County, Georgia. His rural upbringing kindled his love for the natural world and set the stage for his professional career. Gage has a background in youth development and environmental and cultural resource education. His past experiences include The University of Georgia, The Southern Conservation Trust, and the Georgia Aquarium, where he is still a volunteer. In his free time, you can find Gage hiking with his Saint Bernard, Moose, gardening, reading a good fantasy series, or working on his latest crochet project.
Sylvia Montero
administrative assistant
Sylvia has a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from Florida International University. She has eight years of experience in a private school setting managing the day-to-day operations in the lower school office, developing after-school and summer programs, and teaching first grade as a Teacher II. She currently lives in South Florida and hopes to move closer to the mountains someday. She supports The Forest School virtually and is grateful for the opportunity to be location-independent.
Sylvia has spent countless hours volunteering her time in community beach clean-ups, underwater pier clean-ups, and the restoration of native plants in Florida. When not working, you can find her reading her kindle, paddleboarding, or scuba diving. Her idea of a perfect day is enjoying a hike or being at a park with her husband and other best friend of 4 legs.
Her favorite quote is: “Happiness is a choice.”
