What if you had superhero vision to see what inspires people from all around the world?
Why do people do what they do? What if you had superhero vision to see what inspires people from all around the world? And what if you could make someone who is very different than you feel known, heard, and understood?
Welcome to the “Around The World” Quest—our final Quest of 2020!
In a moment in time when Learning to Live Together is more important than ever, the We Are The World Quest aims to engage heroes in inquiry-based projects that explore other people and cultures. Quest challenges will focus on intensive study of one or more aspects of the art, music, literature, religion, values, daily life customs, and traditions of other cultures. During this Quest heroes seek to develop better understanding and appreciation of other cultures, strengthen their inquiry, research, and literacy skills, and grow cross-cultural awareness. At Exhibition, heroes will showcase their learning by taking parents on an around-the-world journey, as they go from culture to culture sharing a deeper understanding of what it truly means to Learn to Live Together.
During this Quest learners will, in groups, choose to learn about a culture different than their own. After making their choice, they will be given challenges on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons that explore the following for their culture of choice:
Introduction to Culture
Music/Art (painter, sculptor, drawing)
Food (recipes, restaurants, main food source)
Religion
Dress
Traditions
Language
Summary / wrap up / prepare for Exhibition
In their groups, learners will have daily opportunities to share what they learn with other learners across their Studios. To form groups, Spark learners will work with Elementary learners, and Middle School learners with High School learners.
At Exhibition on December 17, 2020—which again will be 100% virtual—families will choose one of the following to create together: a traditional food dish, a symbolic art piece, learn a new phrase in that language, or create a necklace, bracelet, or cultural symbol.
