Announcing Session 6 Quests!

We are thrilled to announce the Quests for our Spark, Elementary, Middle, and High School Studios for Session 6!

REPTICON

Spark Studio

What did the mom chameleon say to her nervous child on the first day of school? Don’t worry you’ll blend right in.

This session we will dive deep into the world of reptiles and amphibians. The wonders we have as a child lead us to the wonders of the world. Think in your mind of a child chasing after something in the yard. Something has been discovered. In the child’s mind he/she may wonder, what is it? I want to catch it to see it up close. Where does it live? How does it stay warm? What does it eat? Why does it change colors? These and so many more questions will be brought to our attention and answered as we follow the trail into the world of reptiles and amphibians. REPTICON coming to an area near you soon!

Conservation Game Builders

Lower and Upper Elementary

In this session, elementary learners will be tackling wildlife biology through the lens of game design. Welcome to the Conservation Game Builders Quest! Over the next six weeks, learners will explore ecosystems (globally, regionally, and in their backyard) as they learn how living things work together to create healthy environments and how we as humans can make choices that create healthier habitats for people and creatures alike. As learners explore these topics, they will be using principles of game design to create their own trading card game. For Exhibition, learners will work in teams to present their games to game experts representatives from Southern Conservation Trust!

Wildlife Detective Quest

Middle School

Middle school learners will be donning latex gloves and brandishing magnifying glasses while they embark on the Wildlife Detective Quest! Their goal will be to study wildlife biology by trying to "crack" some of nature's mysteries. Their investigations will lead them to identify tracks, scat, feathers, and fur, dissect owl pellets, investigate the health of local waterways, and problem solve how to handle invasive species.

At Exhibition, representatives will present learners a live conundrum — and our young wildlife detectives will have limited time to solve the mystery and offer a solution.

Behavioral Economics Quest

High School

My Rational Mind or My Irrational Urges? Do most people make rational decisions when it comes to money? More importantly, do YOU make rational decisions when it comes to money, and if not, should you?

Welcome to the Behavioral Economics Quest. Multiple times each week, behavioral economic experiments will be explored and experienced by heroes. By the end of the session heroes should be able to determine if reliable experiments can help decide when to ‘trust your gut’ or when to slow down and apply rational thinking.

During the exhibition, heroes will showcase several group behavioral experiments to parents, visitors, and experts. Then individually, each will showcase created booths to demo their own Behavioral Economic experiments. Visitors will then vote as to which experiment is most valuable. In the end, we will see if behavioral economics has the ability to change how we as human beings make decisions.

Quests are real-world projects to master 21st-century skills.

Usually lasting four- to six-weeks, each Quest includes a series of challenges bound by a compelling narrative and is designed to deliver 21st century skills while simultaneously incorporating traditional topics like science, social studies, and history.
