Flight Quest, Haunted House Quest & more for session 2

Session 2 Quests

Spark

Why did you choose The Forest School, and what do you hope to gain from being here? Do you have a favorite family tradition? Did you do anything that made you feel proud? How do you live in the moment? What's your superpower and how do you use it? Let’s plant the seeds of belonging and build the Spark Tribe. Families are invited to take on a Family Share Challenge and join us in the studio to share fun facts about your family. Heroes will begin the process of understanding and creating their dream teams by brainstorming who they think should be a part of it and why, discussing their passions, and reflecting on the work they have accomplished thus far. In lieu of an Exhibition this session, we will have a Parent Only Ed night for you to take a journey and discover what “A Day in the Life of Spark” looks and feels like.

Elementary

Welcome to the Forest Flight School where your dreams take flight!

The US Navy is always trying to create the fastest and most efficient aircraft possible, and we have been asked to make edits to their current aircraft to make them faster and more efficient in flight. If we succeed, our heroes will be inducted into the Forest Flight School. To have the expertise to create these modified aircraft and present them to members of the US Navy, we've got some work and training to do. This session will teach us about Newton’s Laws of Motion, aerodynamics, lift, drag, thrust and proportion, and force in equilibrium. We will make kites, create parachutes, and work in wind tunnels to figure out how to improve the existing aircraft! We will wrap up our Quest and explore what it’s like to take flight ourselves with a visit to iFly!

Specifically, there are three planes that need improvement:

  • Plane: T-38. Mission: Training

  • Plane: C-2A. Mission: Transport

  • Plane: Gee Bee. Mission: Air racing

Our learner groups will choose their favorite of the three planes and then build and share a set of recommendations to Navy leaders to make their chosen plane more efficient for its mission.

Who’s ready to get flying?

T-38

C-2A

Gee Bee

Middle School and high school

Heroes will create a masterfully spooky original story to manifest into a full-on immersive Haunted House experience. They will encounter world-class design thinking and planning as a whole but then break into groups for costuming and makeup, sound and lighting design, ticket sales, security, actors, set design, a writing team, and more. All heroes will use resourcefulness to procure materials, utilize real-world math in budgeting and ticket sales, leverage physics to create scares and work within our given space (the Shipyard at Trilith), collaborate with heroes from Middle and High School, and co-create a production concept thesis that can be realized on a full scale and opened to the public on the day of the Trilith Trick or Treat: Saturday, October 28, from 6-10pm.
