Sneak peek into our 1st Quests of the year!

Session 1 Quests

Spark

A snail goes to buy a car. The salesman is surprised when the snail picks out a fast, expensive sports car. He’s even more surprised when the snail requires that a big red “S” be painted on both sides. “Why would you want such a thing?” asked the salesman. The snail replied, “I want people to say, ‘Look at that S car go!’” In this session, we will challenge our minds by taking a trip into car racing. We will be the designers, engineers, and masterminds behind how to host a derby race. It’s sure to be a fun time. Join us on Thursday, August 31, in the Spark studio from 8:30-9:30 am. You may like it so much you’ll want to race.

Elementary

Get ready to race into the realm of physics with the ultimate pinewood derby adventure...the Phoenix 500! Imagine a world where tiny wooden cars transform into speed machines, defying gravity and conquering the laws of motion. In this thrilling project, we'll dive deep into the physics behind race cars, exploring concepts like kinetic energy, friction, and aerodynamics. Strap in, hold on tight, and prepare for an electrifying journey where science meets speed, and the checkered flag awaits!

Middle School

Heroes will articulate the stories of their life till this point, communicate the interests, strengths, and passions they are beginning to explore in middle school and project a hopeful vision for the future they could have as individuals through the lens of the Hero’s Journey. Heroes will use the scientific method to study and visit some of the most inviting, beautiful, and positive workplace cultures and select elements to use in their exhibition and to integrate into our studio this year. They will co-create cultural norms and Studio Contracts. Heroes will practice connecting to every individual in the Middle School in some way and try various strategies to converse with individuals inside and outside of the Studio.

High School

Ready to become an engineer? In this session, heroes will learn to become real-time engineers! Along the way, heroes will cultivate a strong engineering culture within the Studio, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and a passion for STEM. Through hands-on experiences, heroes will develop the ability and learn how to conduct the following: structural mechanics, trust structures, load analysis, scaling and proportions, adhesives and joints, and failure analysis. Building upon their problem-solving skills, heroes will learn about structural design principles and gain practical knowledge of construction techniques. Beyond the technical aspect, heroes will extend their time management skills by setting group priorities, deadlines, and shared responsibility. They will enhance their adaptability skills by sharing diverse perspectives and approaches and being comfortable with change. Lastly, heroes will learn to communicate effectively, collaborate as a team, and develop relationships as they get to know one another on a deeper level. Buckle up and get ready to build!
