Communities Creating Their Own Schools
We’re thrilled that Transcend—our nation’s premiere research and development (R&D) organization—has named The Forest School in a study of innovative “out-of-system” learning models, titled “Communities Creating Their Own Schools.”
In their national study, Transcend looked for four things:
Demonstrated innovation that represents a transformative shift from the industrial-era model of school;
Learning models that had a “human-centered” approach where families have a hand in designing them;
Models that were intentionally student-centered; and
School that provided equitable and inclusive access.
We’re honored to be named in this study, which highlights our apprenticeships and self-directed learning model. This most recent mention adds to a growing list of studies that have called out our school, including Harvard's Christensen Institute, Next Generation Learning Challenges, the Canopy study of innovative U.S. school models, HundrEd, and others.
