Launching Varsity boys basketball in 2022
We have exciting news for Middle and High School Basketball fans—The Forest School is having its first ever varsity Basketball team this year!
Boys grades 7-12 can try out for our team. We will play in the GAPPS league. Our head of schools Tyler Thigpen will be head coach, and Forest School dad Jesse Lindsley will assist. Other Forest moms and dads and moms will help at practices and games.
Basketball tryouts will be held on August 3rd and 4th, 5:30-7pm at the basketball courts in Trilith. In case of rain, we've scheduled Friday Aug 5th same time as an additional backup day.
The season starts October 25, 2022, and ends February 26, 2023. More details forthcoming. It should be a fun experience for the boys, and we hope to see you at games!
This opportunity came about because a critical mass of boy basketball players at our school formed and recruited a coach. Since we're a small school, we'll embrace a similar process each year by seeing whether there is a critical mass for a particular sport and whether a volunteer coach is available.
For context for new families, The Forest School joined the Georgia Association of Private and Parochial Schools (GAPPS) so that any Forest School middle or high schooler can "crossover" and play sports or after school activity at any school in the GAPPS network. For example, last year we had a high schooler running cross country at Konos. While the GAPPS' mission has religious ties, the network includes many religiously diverse schools like ours. If your middle or high schooler would like to play a sport, then you and they should research sports offerings at these schools, speak with the respective school's Athletic Director, and then share with my team any requisite paperwork that school requires. We'll happily fill it out.
